7th Berlin Semantic Web Meetup - Semantic Health Care, Life Sciences, Chemistry

The 7th Berlin Semantic Web Meetup (9th December) will address the adoption of Web based information systems and semantic technologies in biomedical informatics, computational biology, chemistry, health care and life sciences. One day before the Semantic Web Applications and Tools for Life Sciences workshop (SWAT4LS 2010) we are organizing this meetup to bring together the international workshop participants with the local and regional Semantic Web community.

Linked Environment Data and the Life Sciences

Environment Agencies from Europe and the US have started to publish Linked Data on the Web, including reference terminology and long-term analysis of substance exposure of humans, species and the environment in Germany. There should be cross-linking with contributions from the life sciences, such as Linking Open Drug Data (LODD), Darwin Core or BioRDF.

Use of semantic technologies for the development of a dynamic trajectories generator in a Semantic Chemistry eLearning platform

ChemgaPedia is a multimedia, webbased eLearning service platform that currently contains about 15.000 pages organized in 1.500 chapters covering the complete bachelor studies in chemistry and related topics of chemistry, pharmaceuticals and life sciences. The eLearning encyclopedia contains some 25.000 media objects and the eLearning platform provides services such as virtual and remote labs for experiments. With up to 350.000 users per month the platform is the most frequently used scientific educational service in the German spoken Internet. In this demo we show the benefit of mapping the static eLearning contents of ChemgaPedia into a Linked Data representation for Semantic Chemistry which allows for the automated generation of dynamic eLearning path recommendations which are tailored to the semantic profiles of the users of the eLearning platform.

Vocabulary Management in the Healthcare and Life Science Industy

The talk will explain how vocabulary management is applied at Roche, Swizzerland, and what applications are used. It will further give an overview on practical examples of the use of semantic applications in the life science, healthcare and pharma industry.
